Psychotherapy and counselling can facilitate recovery when challenging life situations, psychological or relational problems impair our daily living or erode our happiness... |
The United Kingdom Council for psychotherapy offers a very effective definition of psychotherapy as the the provision, by a qualified practitioner, of a formal and professional relationship within which patients/clients can profitably explore difficult, and often painful, emotions and experiences. These may include feelings of anxiety, depression, trauma, or perhaps the loss of meaning of one's life. It is a process that seeks to help the person gain an increased capacity for choice, through which the individual becomes more autonomous and self determined. Psychotherapy may be provided for individuals or children, couples, families and in groups (source: www.ukcp.org.uk).
Additionally, I would add that psychotherapy often serves to promote personal growth and self-actualisation. Psychotherapy is effective in helping individuals (and couples) explore ways of improving their quality of life even when this is relatively problem free.
Pierre Cachia CPsychol
BPsy (Hons), Dip.GPTIM, MPsy(Couns), Dip.Supervision
UKC Registered Psychotherapist ( and Chartered Counselling Psychologist)
I am a psychotherapist registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP). I also hold chartered Counselling Psychologist status from the British Psychological Society. Experienced in assisting adults and adolescents as well as couples and families, I am also available to provide supervision to practitioners and trainee counsellors or psychotherapists.
I firmly believe that psychotherapy and counselling can facilitate recovery when challenging life situations, psychological or relational problems impair our daily living or erode our happiness. Therapy also promotes growth for individuals and couples who desire further personal development. These two processes, which I call Recovery & Growth, are two complimentary positive effects of the so called “talking cure”.
I possess a Masters degree in counselling psychology, a diploma in gestalt psychotherapy and the equivalent of a post-graduate diploma in systemic psychotherapy (family therapy). I am currently following a doctoral programme in psychoanalytical psychotherapy. My experience allows me to offer a holistic approach to psychological treatment. I provide both short-term focused counselling as well as longer-term psychotherapy according to the specific needs and goals identified for oneself.
I am likely to be of help if you are currently experiencing:
• Depression or disabling sadness
• Anxiety
• Obsessional thoughts
• The after-effects of trauma
• Feelings of loss
• Feelings of emptiness
• Dissatisfaction with an aspect of your behaviour
• Dissatisfaction with your current way of being male or female
• Marital difficulties
• Other relational difficulties
Or if you desire to:
• Gain a better understanding of yourself
• Discover a sense of meaning and purpose
• Gain a greater understanding of your capacity to be a father or
mother
• Review your lifestyle to improve the general quality of your life
I am also available to support employees within organisations struggling with work related stress or life issues that are impairing their capacity to contribute to their workplace in the manner justifiably expected from them.
I respect client confidentiality scrupulously and I am positive about diversity whatever your creed, sexual orientation, life stage or lifestyle.

You are likely to benefit if you are passing through a positive time in life and wish to invest some effort in your self development. Alternatively you might wish to understand your current negative mood or the impact that recent or past life events have had on you. An experiential group offers an ideal space in which you can safely reflect aspects of your life in a social context that is supportive of this process.
This group-based experiential workshop is aimed at developing an integrated and authentic awareness of who we are as individuals, while also fostering willingness to accept or change aspects of ourselves. The group will be run by one of Shiva Rooms resident therapists, Pierre Cachia who is a chartered counselling psychologist and psychotherapist (UKCP and EAP registered). He has run self development and therapeutic groups within various settings for over ten years and also provides psychotherapy sessions for individuals, couples and families. Further details can be obtained by visiting his website at www.SurreyPsychotherapy.org.uk
The group will take place weekly at Shiva Rooms in Kingston upon Thames
on Friday evenings starting on 5th of September from 7.00 to 9.00pm. It
is planned to run for 8 weeks and the fee for the whole programme including
