An ancient form of healing for a modern world... |
Acupuncture is a holistic system of healing which has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. In this country it is often thought of primarily for pain relief, in fact it can be used to treat a wide range of illnesses, reduce symptoms of stress, and improve overall wellbeing of the patient.
Traditional Chinese medical philosophy explains that our health relies on our bodies dynamic vital energy (known as Qi) flowing smoothly and harmoniously along channels throughout our whole body. Qi has equal and opposite qualities—Yin and Yang, which should remain in balance. When the flow of Qi becomes blocked or Yin and Yang become unbalanced, we might become ill.
Acupuncture uses the insertion of very fine needles into the channels just beneath the skin, in order to stimulate the body to rebalance and unblock the flow of Qi to restore health. Acupuncture aims to treat the whole person; physically, emotionally and spiritually, to reach equilibrium.
It is safe and hygienic. Louisa Rollinson is a fully insured member of the British Acupuncture Council.

Various types of therapies may be combined to form your individual treatment. We will discuss this prior to starting your first treatment.
Acupuncture
The insertion of fine needles to particular points in the body, to unblock or enhance the flow of Qi or energy in your body to rebalance disharmony.
Auricular acupuncture
The insertion of fine needles into points on the ear. Particularly useful for stress, hormonal imbalances and pain.
Moxibustion
The use of a burning herb (artimesia) near the acupuncture point to warm the acupuncture channels. This ancient technique as very effective in treating conditions where cold has penetrated the body.
Cupping
The application of glass cups to the skin, normally the back, light suction is created in order to release muscle tension, the effect is like a deep tissue massage.
Electro-acupuncture
The use of minute electrical current applied to the acupuncture needles to stimulate the muscles in the area; particularly useful in treating acute muscle and soft tissue injuries.
Tui’na massage
Ancient Chinese massage, which works on the acupuncture channels to release tension and blockages and enhance the freeflow of energy throughout the whole body. This powerful combination of acupressure and other techniques is extremely effective at alleviating many illnesses.
Therapeutic Massage

Diet and Lifestyle Advice
You may be offered advice on how to help prevent and alleviate your illness, through modifications to your diet and lifestyle.
I will review your medical history and work with you on a plan for improving your health and well-being. To do this we employ the four methods of diagnosis used in Chinese medicine: questioning, listening, observation, and palpation. Besides asking you about your main and secondary complaints and general health, I will examine your pulse and abdomen, and look at your tongue for colour and coating. I will then explain to you the results of our assessment and show you which points on your body need stimulation.
The needles used in acupuncture are very fine, and you should feel only a slight sensation when they are inserted. All needles are used only once and discarded after use. It is possible to do a treatment without needles by stimulating acupuncture points through pressure or heat.
Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns before you begin your treatment.
The number of treatments needed differs from person to person. For complex or long-standing conditions, one treatment a week for a month, followed by less frequent treatments is the norm. For acute problems fewer visits but at shorter intervals are required. But remember: each case is different. I will therefore discuss your specific needs with you during your first consultation.
Please make sure you have eaten some food, I need you to have good energy levels to work with.
Please don’t scrape off or brush your tongue the morning of your treatment, as we use the tongue and it’s coating as an important part of your diagnosis.
If possible allow time after the treatment to relax and rest as this enhances your feeling of wellbeing and improve the treatment outcome. Some people feel a little light headed immediately after the treatment.
All our needles are single use, sterile packaged, stainless steel and adhere to E.U. standards and specifications. We carefully uphold the stringent hygiene and safety standards required by members of the British Acupuncture Council. Complete confidentiality is maintained at all times.
